In the late Victorian era, a blue cat from Siam appeared for the first time
on the show bench at the Crystal Palace show and was being judged by the
famous artist,
Louis Wain. Judge Wain refused to judge it because it was not "biscuit
colored" and he refused to believe it was anything other
than
'an
inferior quality' Siamese, and disqualified the cat! It is believed today
that this was the first time a Korat was shown in the UK.
Korats were never heard of again in the West until the late 1950's - and even
then, it wasn't until the 1970's that any arrived to breed in Britain.
Finally, the GCCF
accepted the Korat onto the show bench in the mid 1980's and the breed was given
championship status.
